Hi, I was referred here by manifoldsrme on NastyZ28.com. (Thanks :) )

My primary interest is 2nd gen cars (I own a 70 Firebird Formula 400 and 71 Camaro, both patiently waiting restoration). My third gen (92 Firebird, 5.0, auto) was bought as dependable(?) daily transportation in 2008. At the time it had just under 27k miles. It now has 44-45k. I drive it in all weather.

The biggest challenge has been keeping ahead of things failing from old age or condensation rust (17 years of little driving and storing in an unheated garage by the original owner). All the suspension parts that the factory didn't paint have deep surface rust. For example, I just replaced the front sway bar end links because the bolt head popped off (it was rusted more than 1/2 way through). The floors are trying to rust, too; while changing the back brakes last night (still had factory shoes), I poked a hole in the inner wheelhouse :wall: ). The tires have plenty of tread, but the sidewalls are starting to crack (I know, dangerous) so I don't push my luck with speed or hard corners. I'll probably change them soon--very soon if they fail safety inspection. Many other annoying minor issues have popped up in the last 4 years, but I won't bore you with details.

The drivetrain should be rock solid and the body looks great apart from a few small paint chips and parking dings. Unlike new cars, I know I can fix anything on this, although some minor repairs have proved more challenging/time consuming than expected. The plan is to drive it and keep it looking decent as long as possible. I'd love a set of late 80's Formula wheels (I missed a set on CL for $125 recently) instead of the 15x7's, but for the way I use it there is no real need.

I'll be in and out. I tend to check these sites on lunch or breaks at work. I'll add more info when I get a chance and I'll probably ask some questions about repairs. I need to look around and see what's here first.
