NECF Fall Foliage IV Discussion

Postby Brother Al » Thu Aug 28, 2014 10:56 am

Hate to say it, but the time is upon us... hell, with all of those cool nights, Ive noticed leaves are already turning up in VT and the Berkshires.

That said, Ill open up the discussion with this:

PLEASE SEE NEW VOTE OPTIONS ABOVE... PICK 2 DATES.

Weekend Dates Available: (also need rain date)
________________________________________
Sat, Oct 11
Sun, Oct 12
Mon, Oct 13 (Columbus Day)
Sat, Oct 18
Sun, Oct 19
Sat, Oct 25
Sun Oct 26... (reserved for last Rain Date available.)

We can do the same route we've been running OR something else?

Current route is a loop located in Central Mass, starts and ends at an easily accessible/recognizable location (99 Resturaunt/Pub), near the intersection of US I-90, US Rt 20, I-290/I-395, & Rt 146....The halfway point is at a full rest stop/convenience store/gas station. Most of the route is wide, relatively decent paved roads with little traffic and great foliage/scenery.

Alternative suggestions should contain the following:
- route needs to be "Dry Run" 2 weeks or more prior to the selected date.
- an easy accessible/recognizable Start/Finish point.
- reasonable distance from a major highway.
- clear start/finish times with an allowance for... ahem... yeah, I wont say it.
- be a Loop OR "Point A-to-Point B-to-Point A" straight line route.
- have a Gas Station/Rest Stop w/ Decent Restrooms (think kids & women) at/near the start, midway, and endpoint.
- have decent roads with good scenery/foliage & low traffic.
- a place or two for group pics.
- a final destination with good food at a reasonable price.

Seems like a lot, BUT really makes the difference between a good cruise and a waste of gas

I believe all most of the dates will work for me. When do we start paring down the dates? My Camaro may or may not be ready depending on when I get the trunk lid back from the paint shop.

Yeah, I love the car but the problems with it over the years and the money i have spent on it, I should have gotten something newer with less maintenance. Oh well hindsight right.

And thanks steve I may take you up on that or if I dont get cast out, take the subie.

I see what both of you are saying, however, I seem to always be doing something on the car to fix or maintain it and to be honest, I am tired of working on cars. I want something to jump in and drive. I have seriously considered selling the car as I don't get enjoyment out of working on it anymore. I love to looks and how basic it is with everything I want (efi, disk brakes, handles well, ac etc) and nothing I don't (tc, abs, etc). It has leaks i fix and then 6 month later it comes back and fix them literally every season. Not to mention the cost...i have a spread sheet of ever dime I spent on the car and cringe when I think if I sold it I could probably only get 50% back. I will probably not sell it because when its running well I LOVE driving it and I know I will regret it.

/End rant

Back to the cruise discussion!

Al,

I want to go but I can not say yes before I know the date. I voted and I think all the dates in play still work for me.

The route that you created last year was great.
