Worcester Summer Nationals '09

Postby Brother Al » Thu Nov 20, 2008 3:39 pm

Summer Nats '09.

What should we plan to do?

- Set up a recruitment proceedure or just hand out NECF cards?
- Secure an area in Greenhill Park or just show up & find a spot?
- Tie down a Hotel as our Base of operations?
- Nail down that side street aka "NECF Lane", the we set up on last year & set up a canopy tent to relax or just park where ever & stroll the Chaos in the tunnel area?

All things we need to plan for & think about. I had a blast last year w/ everyone. I know it'll be even better this coming season.

Let me know what you need a hand with Al. You know I'm more than willing to help. I'm glad you guys had a good time.

Brother Al, thats a good question. I like what I'm reading so far. At some point this winter we should nail it down. The idea of that for me is I'd create some flyers to advertise along with a club card to potentials. The canopy will be there for sure. Not knowing the layout I have to go on your guys that have been there before recommendations.

Having a canopy with a banner setup is a great idea. My buddies at Blackout racing have done it the past 2 years and their club has grown really well from it.

I will try and get our street again  . I think finding hotel rooms ahead of time is definitely a must as well. We got lucky last year and found one. I really like the idea of the canopy and banner. I think we really need to nail down a spot at the park as well, location, location, location.

AMEN Al, remembering sumer nats makes me miss home/america so much. these are great ideas that need to deffinetly be discussed/planned. just imagine how much fun ya'll had last year when it rained, we had a medicre turnout, we were completley disorganised, nobody knew "the ropes" etc. some planning would make it even better. maybe i'll actually have a car in the show one of these years, but my hopes aren't too high.......

maybe we can set up a meeting to start to plan around either the world of wheels or frank marrata show? i'll be home a little before christmas. i'm so glad theres interest

Hi Nick!, Had enough of Italy? Nothing, like home I guess. Well don't rush, its been pretty damn cold here lately... like it used to be, all these warm winters have spoiled us I guess... LOL!

On the brighter side, you'll have another car soon enough. Somehow I think you'll find another one, sadly a lot of folks are unloading some pretty nice cars to pay their bills, but their loss is someones gain....

Josh, any help is appreciated, but we really need to figure out the details & get everyone's input so we have a place for that help to be. What do we wanna try to do there? Who will stay with the NECF gear to make sure it doesn't walk or get trashed?

My thought is that we roll into downtown each night, line up all of our cars as quickly as possible along "NECF Lane", & Set up our Canopy on that street. Obviously we would need to stay there or lock everything up in our cars again if we leave (a real PITA).

Who needs/wants a Hotel room, share?
Bring chairs, a few coolers, a Radio, & a Hibatchi/portable Grille? Maybe, hotdogs & burgers ,at cost, for our group?
I can say let's set up the Canopy & put out NECF stuff, but what good is it if no one is there to staff it.
What is the "Draw" to Our Street & do we want one ?

Things like that. Let's hear some ideas kids...

mmm can't wait!

I took the maro for a ride last night. First time it's been started in a month and it purred. I love that car.... Too bad it doesn't have heat.

Funny story about how the heater core let go too lol

Trust me man, you'll enjoy this. I never went before last Summer. My Cousins all told me what a blast it was.
We had a great time, despite the on & off mist. Also, I never thought I'd ever say "I'm bored watching wheel peel", but there was soooooo much... Everywhere!

My God, It was awesome. Lots of cars runnin with open exhausts, tons of cool rides, & of course, a few token Ricers buzzing, popping, & spinnin up their Huge 13", fake plastic spinner hubcap covered wheels to a chorus of Boos, jeers, & laughter from the crowds watching!

You're more than welcome to convoy with me out to Worcester.

That reminds me, we need a rally point somewhere....
Any thoughts?

Josh, I dunno if the airport is a good spot. Its kinda out of the way. Is there someplace just off I-395/291 & the Mass Pike so everyone can find it easily, maybe on US Rt 20?
I'm gonna try to get some prices for hotel rooms & post them up.
Also, Josh showed us a dry, secure, & very cheap place to park nearby in the Hospital parking garage.

Yup the Auburn mall. Its right off 290/395/RT.20 and the pike. Theyre all within 3-5 mins of the mall. Plus the route to downtown on takes a few mins from there as well.

The hospital was the wifeys idea but its a good one!

Guys, post up your plans and when you want to get together and I can coordinate a thread for you. I will probably not be attending myself, I have a conflict of interest that weekend, and always will for the forseeable future. Feel free to make plans amongst yourselves, and I can keep everything coordinated amongst you. I will help any way I can, but will not be a participant.

UPDATE
Summer Nationals is in limbo. There is currently NO location finalized. That's right, it's very possibly moving to a new location.
New England Summer Nationals will happen rain or shine just as it has for the past 18 years but exactly where still remains a mystery! The are several new possible sites in the works all of which would provide much more parking for both spectators and show cars plus additional security! Providence Rhode Island and one of the Connecticut Casino's are just a few of the many many possibility's that are being considered for the 2009 show!

The Casinos aren't in CT technically. They don't have to follow any rules or regulations set forth by CT, unless they made some sort of agreement. Native American Reserves are sort of their own little nations.
It would lose the whole downtown take over coolness to it. But I guess there would be no reason to relocate so we'd only have to find ONE spot instead of one at the park and one downtown.

91B, good to see you back around. We're looking at organizing much better this year with a common spot for all NECF people. We have quadgoat in ME and a few other in NH, if you could make it I think we'd certainly have an entire New England group there. Keep an eye on the events forum because it may be split off once we all find out where the summer nats location is going to move to (if it does move).

I don't see it happening at either casino. I really don't think they would be willing to shut down such a large amount of the parking area. Also, unless they can see a guaranteed revenue from the event, it won't happen. They really don't have any really big open lots either. Mostly parking garages. Even though they don't have to technically follow the rules set forth by CT, the surrounding towns won't allow it. Montville and Norwich do not have the friendliest law enforcement. It is inevitable that the traffic and party will spill out into the surrounding area. I also can't think of an area where they would have the show. That park was huge and it gets completely filled.

I am not to sure about Providence. Maybe the RI boys can think if it's possible there?

TMZ, I'm with you there. Imagine a bunch of us spilling into downtown Norwich....buwwahahahaaa. Anyohow. I'd hope RI myself if its not going to stay in Worcester. RI has a ton of areas I think that would be great for this sort of venue. I'm not going to like the 2+ hour ride but hey, it'd be worth it in the end.

Update... Kinda:
Well, I called one of the Hotels for pricing of their rooms for that weekend & the clerk told me the whole "Dunno where it'll be" thing. According to her, the guy that normally sponsors this owns a towing company in Worcester. Apparently there was a big accident on the road somewhere & his company responded. There was a truck/trailer loaded with Live lobster that spilled/spoiled or something. They were supposed to be trashed as contaminated food products by his company, but was he supposedly selling them out the back door.
He is in DEEP trouble with the State & Feds for this & other reasons as well. Rumor has it that he has ties to bad people & they're looking into rumors that he has been skimming off the Nats too.
Sadly, it may have given enough ammo to those in Worcester who do not want the Summer Nats. to return.

No one is currently sponsoring this or heading it up, so the whole shabang is in complete limbo, maybe indefinately. I dunno what the deal is, but I sure wouldn't send my money to 'em.

Wow, shltty lobster eh? That's like when I bought Road Side shrimp thinking it was a good idea. 53 hours of toilet visits later I learned. WHY THE F would someone do that? That stinks that this guys greed may kill one was a long standing tradition.

Yup stolen seafood. The whole situation sucks ass.

I dont think it'll be at the casions, theres big talks about providence and I personally think that idea blows. I have a lot of cam surge at low rpms and manual steering, I dont see how I would be able to navigate those narrow roads etc. Plus my car passes 140+dB when revving, I'm sure a state that has cracked down on modifying vehicles will want more of those kinda car running around..

I hafta give a :wtg: to Bob for being a tool and ruining this event over some lobster. :hammer:
Just a little cammed 305.. :)

The Website has been modified recently - but there was no information added compared to the last time I looked. There's contact numbers and E-Mail addresses sprinkled over several of the pages but I didn't bother to make contact.

Latest 2009 Show Update
As of 3/19 everything points to the show being held in Worcester as in years past!
This is not 100% definite yet so check back often for all the latest 2009 show updates or sign up for our emailing list! (See below)

The 2009 New England Summer Nationals is on and Bob Moscoffian promises's that it will be the biggest, baddest party of them all!

At this point, if it does happen it's probably not going to be as big as years past due to it being in limbo like this. I doubt there are anywhere near the people pregistering that have before.

I just checked out the prices on the hotels and it would be 140 a night with tax and if we wanted breakfast it would be 172 a night. I figured with 3 people in a room it's not a bad deal. This is at the Hilton where we checked in I believe. Jay, Al you interested? It worked out pretty good last year.
